ABOUT
Katherine’s work has been published and awarded several honors. She was a Juried Poet for the 2017 Houston Poetry Fest, where her poem “Fervor” won the Lorene Pouncey Award, and returned as a Featured Poet in 2018. Her poem, ‘A Daughter Goes to Work,’ was a finalist for the Nimrod Journal’s 2018 Emerging Poets prize. Several of her ‘Chorus’ poems were published in Tupelo Quarterly’s seventeenth issue and chosen by New South Magazine as a finalist for their 2019 prize. One of her ‘Parable’ poems appeared in The Penn Review’s December 2020 issue as a finalist for their 2019 Poetry Prize. Her poetry manuscript was named a finalist for Texas Review Press’s 2019 X.J. Kennedy Prize. Her debut short story, “The World Without Saints,” was published in Salt Hill Journal in 2021 and was followed by “Pageantry” in Portland Review in 2022.

A finalist for the 2019 Penn Review Poetry Prize. Of this poem, a judge writes:
“The graceful lyric voice here conveys compassion and grief. The subject of the poem mysteriously and provocatively seems to shift from a suffering animal to pollen to honey, but the poem is ambiguous and open to various interpretations.”
